One of my favorite books is, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky. The story’s main character is Charlie, a shy, introvert going into his first year of high school. The book features letters written by Charlie about his experiences addressed to an anonymous stranger.
The book has many memorable quotes including, “we accept the love we think we deserve,” and of course…
I have read this book twice now and each time have come away with a different experience. I think the main reason I love this book is because it demonstrates the feelings we all had at some point during high school. The confusion towards dating, the loneliness when we see the person we love with another, the experience of getting your license. This book brings me back to all of those firsts.
It is Chbosky’s words through Charlie that resonate with me and so many other readers.
I will warn you that this book gets a bit dark. It may make you cry. I think that is part of the power of it. The book digs deep down and makes you feel sadness, anger, joy, and love.
If you have read it or do end up reading it, make sure you tell me. I would love to hear your view of the book.
Today I thought I would share with you one of my all time favorite authors.
He has written many books and I own every one.
Not every copy, of course, but a copy of every book he has released thus far.
I even have multiple copies of some so I can loan them out.
Yeah. I am that person.
Let me tell you a little about his writing.
His books are funny, crazy and always wonderful.
His books include “Fool”, “Sacre Blue”, “You Suck”, “Practical Demon Keeping”, and much more.
What I like about him is that he is always interested in communicating with his fans.
In the back of his books, near the bio, he includes an email for readers to send questions, comments and whatever else they feel like sending.
He also has a Facebook page that he frequently posts to.
I suggest you go check out one of his many books and let me know what you think!
