GeekGirlCon 2019 Recap

Hello Lovely!

I recently went to this year’s GeekGirlCon! I ADORE this convention because it’s a warm, welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment. I’ve been t

o a few different conventions and, while they are fun, they don’t have the same vibe as GGC. For example, on their “About Us” page on their website they state this:

GeekGirlCon is an organization that works to empower women and girls to pursue their passions—whether they love science and technology, comics, literature, gaming, or anything else! Everybody is a geek at heart, in one way or another. Our mission is to ensure all these geeks are supported, welcomed, and encouraged to pursue what they love.

As a lady who has often felt like an outsider in some nerdy culture, this is awesome! It’s a con that specifically seeks to support their attendees/fans. That’s so rad! I adore this convention and 100% recommend people attend if you haven’t. It also feels a lot less crowded when compared to a convention like Emerald City Comic Con so if you have a hard time with crowds but still want to check out a con, GGC may be a good fit.

This year was a little different from years past for me. The friends I typically meet up with didn’t attend this year and a few of the artists/vendors I love seeing weren’t there. It was a bit of a bummer but the con was still fun.

I walked around the exhibit hall, checked out some amazing booths, and saw a fun panel on the representation of teachers in popular media. It was really interesting!
