Today is Fletch’s birthday so I want to take a moment to talk about how great he is. Fletch and I met in college at the beginning of our junior year. We began as friends, mostly hanging out with other people, but our relationship quickly blossomed. We started dating and three months in I said, “I love you,” when hanging up with him on the phone (it was a happy accident).
We’ve survived a six month separation during my study abroad in college, graduating college, figuring out life after school, living together, the ups and downs of employment, and the joy (and frustration) of having a dogter (dog daughter). Today he turns 32 and I wanted to reflect on our time together and how thankful I am to have him as my partner. Fletch is the kindest, most thoughtful individual I have ever met. He always puts the needs of others in front of himself. I feel like the luckiest lady in the world to have him as my best friend and my partner in life.
So, what’s my point? Well, I’d say to appreciate those around you. It is so easy to get used to the little kind acts that people do on a regular basis. You come to expect it. For example, Fletch makes dinner for us every night. It has become a routine and I forget to thank him. It’s not until I stop and reflect that I recognize every little nice thing he does for me. Reflecting on the little things helps you recognize and appreciate the ones you love.
Tonight I ask you to do something for me. Well, not for me but for Fletch. Go forth and do something nice for someone else, be it a stranger or someone you know. Do it in honor of Fletch’s birthday. Spread some kindness and warmth around. With how crazy the world is right now I think we could all use a bit more light. A bit more love.
Have a great night my beautiful friends.
